Brudenell Presents...

Father John Misty

@ O2 Academy Leeds

Today, Josh Tillman is sharing release details for his sixth Father John Misty album Mahashmashana, produced by himself and Drew Erickson; executive produced by Jonathan Wilson. Mahashmashana will be released Friday 22nd November in the UK & Europe via Bella Union and Sub Pop for the rest world. The album is available to preorder here.

Mahashmashana features eight songs across 50 minutes and includes the singles “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All,” “She Cleans Up,” “Screamland,” and “Josh Tillman and The Accidental Dose.” The latter two were mixed by BJ Burton.

To accompany the announcement Father John Misty has shared his new single “Screamland”, a 7-minute epic which features Alan Sparhawk from Low on guitar and a striking string arrangement written by Drew Erickson. Watch the official “Screamland” video directed by Estefania Kröl HERE.

Commenting on the video Estefania Kröl says: “The video is a visual journey through the depths of ‘Screamland,’ capturing the essence of both the music and the artists. Father John Misty blends seamlessly into the scene, becoming a part of the city, a living echo of ‘Screamland.’”

Mahāśmaśāna (महामशान)— great cremation ground, all things put going thither.

Mashashmashana standout “I Guess Time Just Makes Fools Of Us All” was released last month with Father John Misty’sGreatish Hits… compilation and earned praise from Pitchfork (“26 Contenders for Song of the Summer”), The Observer, NME, The New Cue, The Line Of Best Fit and Esquire (“25 Best Songs of 2024, So Far”).

Father John Misty’s previous album was the universally acclaimed Chloë and The Next 20th Century which entered the UK album chart at Number 2 back in April 2022. “Stunningly melodic” said The Guardian, making it their Album of the Week, while Uncut hailed it as “another multi-faceted triumph” in an 8/10 lead review. Father John Misty went on to play a sold-out show at Hammersmith Apollo in early 2023 before returning just a couple of months later to perform the songs of Scott Walker at the Barbican accompanied by Jules Buckley and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. During the Summer he returned to London to perform in Hyde Park as special guest to Lana Del Ray.
